Queen of the Home: Essays, Poetry, and Quotes on the Honor, Nobility and Power of Biblical Womanhood

Completed: August 2011

This was a project for Vision Forum and was compiled by our friend Jennifer McBride. Here’s a snippet of the synopsis: In past generations, the role of wife and mother was viewed as a sacred calling. The committed homemaker was seen as strong, capable, intelligent, and irreplaceable. She was regarded not only as a crucial part of the home, but as a foundational bulwark of society. [Read more]

Large Family Logistics

Completed: September 2010

Written by author Kim Brenneman and published by Vision Forum, Large Family Logistics is the fourth book that I’ve had the pleasure of designing from cover to cover, that is to say, I was able to design the cover and typeset the book as well. With over 400 pages at 8.5” x 11”, this oversized book is stuffed with helpful tips on motherhood and effective home management, offered by a mother of nine. Find the book online at VisionForum.com or on the Christian Book Distributors web site.

Joyfully at Home

Completed: September 2010

This fun and quirky design was created for the first book of Jasmine Baucham, daughter of well-known Christian theologian and preacher, Dr. Voddie Baucham. The design strives to mimic the established design of Jasmine’s blog and was the fifth book that I had the pleasure of both designing the cover for and typesetting (which has become one of my favorite types of work). Read more details about the book on Vision Forum’s web site or at Christian Book Distributors.

NCFIC’s Sufficiency of Scripture 2009 — Official Event Program

Completed: November 2009

I again had the pleasure of helping our friends over at the National Center for Family-Integrated Churches by creating the official event program for their debut solo event, The Sufficiency of Scripture 2009.

The 36-page program is printed in full color and, in addition to the standard program page template that I designed, contains a number of custom-designed ads as well (Vision Forum’s new film The Mysterious Islands, Answers in Genesis’ Creation Museum, NCFIC’s upcoming events, etc.). Click here or on the image thumbnail at right to download and view the full PDF version.

Family Reformation: The Legacy of
Sola Scriptura in Calvin’s Geneva

Completed: June 2009

Family Reformation is a recently completed project for Scott Brown, Director of the National Center for Family Integrated Churches. Family Reformation is a 336-page book on Calvin’s view on family life and is the first paperback book I have designed. Here is an excerpt of the description:

“While the doctrine of salvation was reformed during the sixteenth century, so were marriage, manhood, womanhood, courtship, child raising, fertility, and many other areas of family life. John Calvin never wrote a book on the family, but he touched off a family reformation resulting in a massive restructuring of the most fundamental institution of society.” [Click here to read more]

To Have and to Hold: A Tale of Intrigue and Adventure (Redesign)

Completed: November 2009

Getting to redesign the book To Have and to Hold was particularly enjoyable for me. It not only generally brings back memories of the Jamestown Quadricentennial event, which was a special event for Melissa and me, but it is something that my wife and I discovered early on in our communication that we both loved. It was among the first of what we later discovered were a million things we had in common.

Although I was quite fond of the original Vision Forum design, I still thoroughly enjoyed getting to design the cover to one of my all-time favorite books. You can view the book online and read more details on Vision Forum’s web site.

The Little Boy Down the Road

Completed: September 2008

The Little Boy Down the Road is the the third book I have had the pleasure of designing and typesetting, and I have found that I have a particular fondness for working with books! This book is a compilation of short stories and essays written by Doug Phillips and is a charming, humorous and frank insight into the everyday happenings of a Christian family. For a more complete description and a free sample chapter, click here or on the image at right.

The Family

Completed: September 2008

This project was a dust jacket redesign for the book by J.R. Miller formerly sold under the title of Homemaking. Vision Forum desired to revamp the look of the book and create something that would broaden the appeal, as the old design seemed to suggest that the content was exclusively for women when indeed it is a book for the entire family. Desiring to avoid depicting any one kind of family, I created this very simplistic dust jacket design, using a near white background and red foil embossed text. The book can be found online at Vision Forum’s web site.

John Calvin: Man of the Millennium

Completed: September 2008

On this, the 500th anniversary of the birth of one of the most influential men of all time, it was my great honor to design and typeset this wonderful book. The book was written originally by Philip Vollmer, but also includes new portions by Dr. Joseph Morecraft, III, a wonderful historian and beloved man almost single-handedly responsible for igniting my passion for the Reformation and the men of that time. For a more complete description and a free sample chapter, click here or on the image at right.

The Princess Adelina

Completed: August 2008

Fully titled The Princess Adelina: An Ancient Christian Tale of Beauty and Bravery, this is the first book I have had the pleasure of designing and typesetting. The story is centered around a young girl in 8th-century Germany who is swept into royalty when she unwittingly wins the affections of the Herzog (duke or prince) of the region known as Thuringia. Based on a true story, this Esther-like tale recounts the deeds of the courageous “Princess” Adelina of the ancient German Culdee church as she endures and overcomes persecution, slander, exile, and the impending destruction of her people and how she is used by God to see the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ shine forth and prevail!

WEB SITES AND WEB MEDIA

Normandy: A Final Farewell Web Site

Completed: March 2011

This site was designed for Vision Forum Ministries’ Normandy: A Final Farewell project, an endeavour striving to honor the ever dwindling number of WWII veterans that remain with us. For those who are unable to visit Normandy in person, a special 3-day online virtual tour will take place—the Normandy site being the hub for the online tour. The site will host field updates, video broadcasts and a number of photo galleries containing imagery from the tour. Visit AFinalFarewell.org to see the live site.

Into the Amazon Web Site

If you haven’t already signed up for access, I highly recommend that you do. Visit IntoTheAmazon.org and click on the Register button.

Visit their web site at www.graciousdesigns.com.

Heritage Defense Web Site

Ballantyne the Brave Web Site

Completed: May 2008

This Web site was created for Vision Forum, and more specifically as a blog for Joshua Phillips and a venue for posting various articles pertaining to boys’ literature. The construction of the site was a collaborative effort in which I designed the appearance of the homepage and sub-pages, coded the various sections, including the blog, image gallery and articles section, and helped in part with the “hooking up” of the site to the content management system (CMS) Moveable Type. The site utilizes CSS and is written in PHP.

Still Standing Trailer Web Site

Completed: August 2007

Designed to help promote the newly released film Still Standing: The Stonewall Jackson Story, this site uses many of the same tools as previous site designs have employed, namely a collaboration of HTML, PHP, CSS, and in this case some Java Script. Clicking on the image at right will take you to the live site (Quicktime will be required to view the film trailers). Also, see the DVD design below.

University of Roanoke Web Site

Date of completion: 20 January, 2007

This was one of a number of sites created for the Jamestown 400 treasure hunt, part of the Quadricentennial Celebration hosted by Vision Forum Ministries. Designing the site was tricky, as we had to try to make it believable and at the same time had limited time to invest in the project. Now that the hunt is over, the site has been taken offline and is no longer viewable.

Family Conferences Web Site

Completed February 2007

A project for the Keen family in Alabama, the Family Conferences web site features a combination of HTML, PHP and CSS to achieve a simple, organized layout. The site redesign also has a contact form and a number of photo galleries from past ministry events that Family Conferences has been involved with. Click on the thumbnail preview at right to be taken to the site.

BRANDING AND LOGO DESIGNS

Ready Wrench Logo

Completed: June 2010

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Scott Brown during the creation of this fun and quirky logo, designed for a new company that he recently launched. He knew exactly what he wanted in terms of the elements and composition of the logo, so the execution was left to me! I think I really pushed the limits of Photoshop’s vector shape features for this one! Among the needs for the project were the creation of business cards, letterhead, advertisements, shirt logos and even a van wrap which you can see on the Ready Wrench web site.

Heritage Defense Logo

Completed May 2010

I enjoyed dabbling a bit in Adobe Illustrator (not my forte) for the creation of this company logo for Heritage Defense, Don Hart’s new legal defense firm for Christian homeschooling families. The project consisted of the creation of the shield logo that you see to the right as well as the general template design of the web site, which you can view at heritagedefense.org.

‘Love the Church’ Conference Branding

Completed: May 2010

This project consisted of the creation of the official branding/logo of NCFIC’s upcoming ‘Love the Church’ Conference which will take place December 9-11, 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina. The art will be reworked for use on the web site, advertisements and various other mediums as the conference approaches. Visit the web site for the National Center for Family-Integrated Churches to see more information about the conference.

PRODUCT PACKAGING

Law & Government: An Introductory Study Course (Boxed Set)
